In an era when most mass-market cruise lines are racing to build the next
"biggest mega-liner," Windjammer is committed to saving and sailing the noble
and historic vessels of yesteryear. Windjammer Barefoot Cruises is the largest
operator of Tall Ships in the world and the exact opposite of what you would
expect on a more mainstream cruise vacation. Forget the tuxedos and cocktail
dresses. On Windjammer, informality rules! T-shirts and shorts are all you need.
Windjammer is a way of life - a vacation for some and a lifestyle for others.
Experience the thrill of tall ship cruising - where the day begins with
complimentary Bloody Mary's and the day ends sipping a rum swizzle while
chilling in a toga or your best pirate gear.
Each week, experienced Captains and crew chart a smooth course to the hidden
corners of paradise - to pristine anchorages and far-flung ports you'd never
find on a traditional cruise ship. They believe in barefoot fun and real
down-island adventure. That much, they can promise.
Why a Windjammer Barefoot Cruise Sailing is romantic, exciting, and adventurous.
Windjammer's historic ships captivate sailors and land lubbers alike. Ducking
under booms, leaning against the railing a few feet above the sea, watching the
crew work the winches and climb the masts are constant reminders that these are
legendary vessels.
Sailors have more fun. These are lazy days for some, filled with tropical
drinks, billowing sarongs and dreamy sunsets. For others, tall ship sailing is
pure adventure. No matter what your speed, there is no better way to explore the
Caribbean than under the sail of a Windjammer tall ship!
Who Sails with Windjammer Windjammer shipmates are a motley crew of
interesting folks from all over the U.S. and abroad. You won't know if the guy
or gal sitting next to you is the CEO of a Fortune 500 Company or an average
"Joe." And the best part is... no one cares. Once your ship sets sail, it's all
about relaxing and getting into the down-island groove. Any pretences are
quickly forgotten, and a familiar sense of camaraderie soon develops among
passengers.
Couples shouldn't wait another minute because right now, you could be having
the time of your life, sailing to exotic Caribbean islands with your beloved.
Rekindle the romance or reaffirm your love. Celebrate a birthday, anniversary,
or honeymoon. Then again, who really needs a reason to have a good time?
Type-A Personalities will enjoy their favourite sports and hobbies in the
tropics. This is your chance to add another checkmark to your "been there, done
that" list. Snorkelers Divers; Kayakers Mountain Bikers; Eco-Travellers
Windsurfers and Hikers will love a Windjammer Barefoot Cruise.
Single Travellers will find that a tall ship is an ideal place to meet other
eligible rogues and wenches. Cruising attracts single shipmates who already
share a lot in common: passion for adventure and a love of the sea. Windjammer
does a series of Singles Cruises that are fun, laid back, and tres hip.
Windjammer has a balanced booking policy that guarantees a mix of fun-loving
singles. Remember to book early; these cruises fill up quickly.
Life Onboard If you've never felt weathered teakwood beneath your bare
feet, now's your chance. Windjammer's spacious decks are a focal point of
activity. It's where shipmates gather to lounge, sunbathe, read, socialize,
dance and party from sun-up to sundown. Above all, the atmosphere onboard is
relaxed, casual and comfortable - a place where you can let your hair down. At
night, bring your bedding to the top deck and sleep under the stars while the
ship is under sail. They guarantee you'll feel like a kid or a carefree pirate!
Life Ashore Windjammer has been cruising "down island" for more than 50 years. Like the
pirates of yesteryear, they know all the right people in all the right places.
Windjammer's tour planners spend gruelling hours researching and selecting
onshore excursions that are fun, authentic, and designed to put you face - to -
face with the local environment and culture. Each day, shipmates may be offered
a selection of 3-4 tours that range from mellow (snorkelling tours) to active
(hiking) to adrenaline-pumped (all-terrain vehicle jungle adventures).
Dining Dining aboard Windjammer is casual and relaxed. No tuxedos, ties
or feather boas required. Come in a bathing suit and t-shirt if you like - just
bring an appetite. Meals are social occasions for sharing stories and good food
in the company of interesting and friendly shipmates. The good thing is, you can
meet someone new at each meal, as there are no fixed seating arrangements.
Shipmates are free to roam and sit with whomever.
Windjammer's talented galley can even bake a birthday cake. Vegetarians need
not worry for Windjammer's chefs can whip-up more than a steaming plate of
broccoli. And for those with health concerns, they'll do their best to
accommodate most dietary needs.
All meals are included, but feel free to explore the local culinary scene on
your own. There are many picnic and dining options: French bistros, Creole
restaurants, West Indian snack - shacks and beachfront pubs to name a few. Take
this opportunity to taste the many flavours of the tropics.
The Ship's Bar Drinks are purchased with Windjammer doubloons that
passengers buy onboard. Well-stocked bars offer daily specials and everyone's
favourite tropical drinks, beer, and fruit juices. Bottled water and soft drinks
are also available.
Spacious Accommodations - Yeah, right! Ok, so the cabins aren't the biggest in the world, but they do have everything
you need for a Tall Ship Adventure including air conditioning. Accommodations
range from Upper and Lower berths in the lower categories; lower beds and
portholes in the middle categories; and Suites in the higher end stateroom
categories. Amenities vary by stateroom category. Please ask your Cruise
Specialist for more details.
Junior Jammers - Windjammer for Families It's like summer camp, but
better because Mom and Dad get to go too! From June through August, kids rule
the waves on two family-friendly ships: S.V. Legacy and S.V. Polynesia. While
Junior Jammers explore, play games, go to the beach and have a blast in our
supervised Junior Jammers Club, parents can take a deep breath, relax and enjoy
each moment of their vacation. Parents may join their children on the adventures
ashore, or meet up with their kids later in the day. It's truly the best of both
worlds.
Junior Jammers explore the Caribbean. They also help the Captain sail;
venture ashore to build sandcastles; take mini-field trips to get ice cream;
play wacky Olympics on the top deck. Junior Jammers also love the pizza parties
and kid-friendly meals.
Tall ship sailing could be the antidote for boredom. From June through
August, teens learn the ropes on two great ships, S.V. Legacy and S.V.
Polynesia. The atmosphere onboard is relaxed, fun and safe. Teens are invited to
explore the tropical, Caribbean environment through excursions ashore and
nautical activities onboard. There's always something to do... snorkelling,
hiking the rainforests, steel drum lessons; kayaking, pizza parties, hanging out
at the beach and a whole lot more. A favourite among the teens is sleeping under
the stars on the top deck while the ship is under sail.
